Surveying for Oil and Gas Pipelines

Topographic Land Surveyors - Surveying for Oil and Gas Pipelines

Topographic has been surveying oil and gas pipelines since the day John Keating opened the doors in 1958. We have surveyed pipelines of every size, shape, and length. We have worked on very small projects and on projects that required multiple phases and multiple years.

We understand that choosing your project land surveyor is not a decision you take lightly. You need a surveying company with many years of pipeline experience. You can’t afford to take chances with your surveyor. You need a surveying company that won’t cause delays and will get your plats to you on time.

For as-built surveys, we perform the work to whatever level of detail is required. If data on every joint of pipe and the location of every weld is needed, we will be there to get it.

With the increasing interest in safety and an aging infrastructure, we are locating and mapping an increasing number of existing pipelines. On each assignment, we will use whatever technique works best to locate the line. Once the pipeline is located, we will use our survey-grade GPS equipment to capture point locations along the line. From the point files, we will create highly accurate maps. If these maps are used properly, digging can be minimized when weaknesses are found and repairs are required.

Our survey crews are often working on pipeline projects in several different parts of the country. The latest communication tools help us to monitor the progress of these projects, check the field work, and draw the plats. We use e-mail and virtual private networks to send files from our data loggers to the Survey Techs in our various offices. These files are checked, turned into plats, and sent to the Registered Surveyors for their review. By sharing talent and resources among offices, we work most efficiently and get our plats out and to our clients on time.

We have Professional Surveyors on staff licensed to work in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Washington. We have relationships with other licensed surveyors who are authorized to work in many other states.

If the delivery of pipeline data in specialized formats is required, GIS services are available to our clients through Topographic Mapping Company. (See “GIS” on the Topographic.com home page.)

Whether your pipeline project is in the mountains of Colorado, the deserts of Arizona, or the forests of east Texas, Topographic would like to be your surveying partner.
